In 2007 local West Didsbury residents mounted a campaign to persuade the City Council not to grant permission for the Park Lodge to be developed and to also dissuade the council from selling land belonging to the park to a developer. A picnic protest was held as well as a Tai Chi protest and a petition of 6000 signatures collected from local residents which was subsequently presented to the Council.
